is there a list of good "SEEDS" to use to get some decent map configurations at world gen? all i ever seem to get is a crap ton or gravel and ocean worlds. which kind of blows.

(+2)

any chance on adding an option that adjusts the amount of ruins in a world before creation? or the amount of fruit trees? i hardly find any of either!!!!

(+1)

i love the update so far! one thing i would really love is a way to save and load presets for world settings, and maybe an option for 75% creature strength?

you can lower creature strength at world creation. do you mean mid game?

(+1)

I have more than 600 hours on this game and own my very own active server and i have to say that this game is an absolute masterpiece, even though It's jut in early access it has a ton of hours worth of content and has a lot of replayability, really enjoy the game and hope to see it grow like it deserves to!

(+1)(-1)

can you add something in the customization settings about how changing the month length will ALSO make crops take LONGER TO GROW if made longer? i found this out the hard way cuz i set months to 30 days and did not get crops for the entire month. yeah it was on low fert dirt but still the time thing i was NOT aware of. i bet many are not aware of it. i still LOVE the game. keep up the great work Tyron!!!

(+8)

garlic bread is good

(+1)

a few things i noticed from nolifing this for 30 hours...
wine caskets should stay closed till you open them.
and someone explain to me why rabbits wont eat mash... seems dumb to make it so they dont eat it...they eat mask irl...
other then that it feels a little empty like i want a bad guy walking around or something i dont know something humanoid not a monster...
anyway back to nolifing another 30 hours...

(+1)(-32)

Looks like minecraft, be original!

(+8)

You clearly havent played the game if you're saying this. It's more than minecraft. At least try the game before saying silly things

(+1)(-8)

i slightly need to agree with him looking at the screenshots i can see the care put into this game, although it does look like the Rlcraft screenshot it confused me before i opened the page, im going to try playing the game then figure out my opinion on this.

(+1)(-4)

also i do respect you Tyron i think the game looks amazing from the screenshots

(+1)(-3)

And you look **stupid**

(2 edits) (+3)

It's because he made this after making the mincraft mod VintageCraft, which is the start of this project i believe.

So "be original" kinda falls out as an argument. It's like saying "Hytale is trash, it's like minecraft".
First of all, it's really different.
Second of all, the project started with Hypixel's team, which worked on minecraft before, so ofc it will have some similiarities.

Furthermore, Terraria was lauched the 16 of may 2011, while Minecraft was lauched in the 17th of may 2011.
You should talk trash about Minecraft then, bc those games are similar in the graphics (like vintage story). And you only should judge on that, since you don't care about the gameplay.
And don't say to me "minecraft developement started before", because i'll just slap the Crimson biome into your face.

(1 edit) (+1)

The game was inspired by an old Minecraft mod, actually. So you're not completely wrong.

Though the game is way more than Minecraft. More intricate, the finer details are what the game focuses on.

This game is difficult, though not too difficult, and it can also be tedious if you don't have the patience to, say, shape a clay pot pixel-by-pixel.
A lot of people describe this game as "Minecraft for men." lol

(+1)

i am happy to report that a laptop with 6 GB of RAM can run Vintage Story.i do got it on pretty much all potato stats in the game but it does run fine with minimal slow down issues.

will we ever see this on steam?

better for it to be on here or humble because of the cut valve takes. something like 30%

(+2)

Steam give much more visibility. So it should be better than anything; just make the price heigher on steam and say in the game's description it's cheaper here ig (idk you your allowed to tho)

(+1)

As far as I know you can't sell games on steam if you offer them cheaper somewhere else. So if you want to sell game for $20 it has to be $20 everywhere to sell it on steam.

i.e. You can't charge more on steam to cover valve's cut.

Oh ok, i didn't knew that, that's great to know. Thanks

(+2)(-2)

i should still be able to get it before Christmas so yay!!!!

(+1)(-3)

i will be getting the game on this site. every time we try to get it on Vintagestory.at the anti-fraud thingies go off at the bank cuz of the site being in Latvia and not in the USA. so i will get it here cuz itch.io is in California in the USA. so it SHOULD count as local enough to not be an issue anymore. that and i gotta use a prepaid card to avoid bank BS.

(+7)(-1)

Looking for a review that's something more than "It's good", then read this:

Vintage Story (VS) is a combination of modded MC and Wurm online. Things like a mini-map and world-edit are built into the Vanilla game and yet VS is built from the ground up with an excellent modding system.

The game has just the right amount of challenge and grind to feel rewarding and if you disagree then no problem, simply edit the world settings to your preferences. You don't like how often you need to eat? No problem, adjust that in the vanilla settings. Don't like the challenge of "True Winter"? Again no problem, just adjust a vanilla setting. Don't like rifts, temporal storms, or unstable areas? Again, no problem, just edit world settings (there's a lot). And if you prefer multi-player then you will probably find a server with the settings (or mods) that you like.

The game has been in development for 7 years and even as an early access game, it feels very polished. With all of the content, it's hard to believe that it is only 40% complete. I was surprised to learn this because it feels nearly completed already and I'm excited to see how the game is going to improve further.

The attention to detail is phenomenal and you can tell that the indy developers really care about their game and how it is experienced by you. The chiseling system is second to none and lets you chisel pixels from most blocks to create any shape you want which in turn lets you create things you could never achieve in MC or Wurm. You can even replace bits from a block with bits from another different colored block. You've seen pixel art on MC... well you can do that in detail with single blocks in VS. You ever see a building IRL and then attempt to recreate it in MC or Wurm and it just didn't work? ... it works in Vintage Story.

You can purchase direct from the developer but I purchased through Itch because Itch allows me the use of a US domestic-only prepaid visa gift card that doesn't work with most international payment processors. So if you don't have a credit card, you can buy a prepaid visa gift card with cash and then purchase the game here on itch (worked for me in the U.S.). After purchase just read your email and follow the instructions to create a VS account, download, and install. I don't know why some people had a hard time with this, all I did was read and follow the instructions. Easy Peasy.

Thank you for the detailed review!

(1 edit) (-1)

will the game run on a laptop with only 6 GB of RAM? all my other specs seem to be good enough i think but i only got 6 GB not 8 GB. i have yet to get the game so i NEED to know this SOON!!! anybody with less than 8 GB of ram who can play this please let me know!!!!

(1 edit) (+1)

Probably not very well based on the requirements.  If you meat every other requirement but that, it probably can run but quality might be poor.

System Requirements

Minimum (around 25 FPS on low graphics quality settings, without mods)

OS: Linux, Windows 7 or newer, 64 bit

Processor: 3rd Generation Intel Core i3/i5 with at least 2 Threads

Memory: 8 GB RAM

Storage: 3 GB free HDD space

Graphics: Dedicated (e.g. Geforce GT 440) or Integrated graphics from 2016+, for example Intel HD Graphics 620, Radeon R5. OpenGL 3.3 or newer

Network: Internet Connection required when starting the game for the first time

Recommended (around 30 FPS on medium graphics quality settings)

OS: Windows 10 or newer, 64 bit

Processor: AMD Ryzen (any), 4th Generation Intel Core i5/i7 with 2 Cores / 4 Threads or similar

Memory: 16 GB RAM

Storage: 6 GB free SSD space

Graphics: Dedicated graphics from 2017+, for example Geforce GTX 1030, Radeon RX 560, OpenGL 3.3 or newer

Network: Internet Connection required when starting the game for the first time

i am used to running all my games on potato settings with no mods so as long as it can run i will be happy. i can play "Deep Rock Galactic" on this laptop so i believe i have a decent chance that Vintage Story will run! thanks for answering my question btw!!!

(+2)

Was thinking about getting it but I'm seeing a lot of people having problems. I'm sure your game is great but I'm broke and 23 dollars is a lot for me and I'm not looking to lose it.

Hopefully you sort out your problems or just make the game cheaper, either or, I'll probably be coming back.

This game is very good. If you have played Minecraft and enjoyed it  but wished it was more survival oriented, then you will enjoy this. Me and my group of friends have all played it together for a month or two each major update and have had a blast every time. Our experience is that the game is very stable if you run it on a stable release. Beta releases are beta releases and will have bugs and crashes, but stable releases are clearly marked. While the game is fun solo it really shines in groups, solo play can be a bit much as there are a lot of systems. For what its worth I bought my copy directly from their website and not through a 3rd party, humble also sells the game if you trust them more.

Thanks for letting me know! I just have like 0 cash atm and no credit card or source of income of any sort. I'm now more tempted to play!

(+5)

No problem. The devs are very passionate. You see it everywhere if you pay attention. For instance if you drop a maple tree seed it twirls as it falls like they do in real life. You can skip rocks across water. When baking bread it rises in the oven. Every time we play we find some small detail that we never noticed. Its not as fleshed out as modern Minecraft, and next update is still a few months out so there is no harm in waiting. Updates are about twice a year and are usually pretty sizeable and worth a restart on a fresh server. So perhaps try to get it for like Christmas break or something they should be rolling out betas for the new update by then.

Incase I'm overselling it, I will also list some criticisms. One this game is hard until you know what you are doing, then its pretty relaxing if not a bit boring.  The late game is getting better, but once you make steel the game looses its difficulty and survival is more of a chore. The reason i say this game shines with friends is because in the early game there is a lot to do and the game does you no favors. Ore can be hard to find. Food rots so you need to gather, cook, and organize your food, and that can be a job in itself. Animal Husbandry will kill you unless you put a good deal of work into it and may not be worth it unless you like to roleplay a bit (I do).  Alcohol is the same, its a lot of work for no real in game reward. Forging tools is a love it or hate it system, same with pottery, and you'll spend a lot of time doing both. There isn't much enemy variety right now, so I was actually excited to see them add bears.  Wolves suck and you will forever hate them, they are this games creeper and a huge source of grief when exploring. Biomes can also get a bit stale. Mods can fix some of these, but I recommend going in vanilla at first.

(+2)

That was actually such a great review. Why don't people post these more often??
You seem like such a cool person if you took the time to write that (And admit u like roleplay a tiny bit ((I do too))) and that makes me question something totally off topic if u dont mind answering

if you get christmas or birthday money save it and have an adult bank it and get it for you using their card. that is how i am doing it. i got no bank or card but family got both so they will get it with the money i give them.

(+1)

mine do too but they prefer not to. Thank you for the advice! Do you think it's worth it? The game, I mean

(+1)

HECK YEAH!!!!! minecraft holds your hand way to much in my opinion . Vintage Story makes you feel like you ACTUALLY did a thing because you had to go thru all that effort. because you have to do all of these things to get anywhere the payout feels WAY more rewarding when you get the fruits of your labor. that and i heard that the game has a 10 hour trial period before you can't refund. so you get a lot more time to try it and see if you REALLY want it.

(+1)

buy it from their website not itch

(+1)

Whats their website

(+1)

https://www.vintagestory.at/  this is the home site for the game.

(+5)

Will Vintage Story be on Steam? I live in Russia so I can't buy the game with a credit card.

(-3)

майлз?

i wanna try this out but im too broke rn. looks really cool though

the game says to log in but then it says my password is wrong (which its not) and then when i ask to send me a password reset forum it just wont so did i just get ripped of $23

You did not get ripped off. Write us a support ticket or use our contact form. We are happy to help with account issues.

I'm having problems, man. I bought the Vintage Story game from https://tyronx.itch.io/vintage-story but I never got the download link and code. in my email Can you believe that?

See first paragraph of the games description on this page, there is a key redeem link on itch.io

I'm having problems, man. I bought the Vintage Story game from itch.io but I never got in the purchases section on itch.io website

You most likely just overlooked it. The itch.io support can also help btw.

Deleted 58 days ago

Hey, I think there might be a problem with the itch.io website. They said they charged you for the game, but it's not showing up in my purchases. I still haven't gotten a key or download from the website for the vintage-story game. Maybe it's still in the key queue. Oh, and just so you know, the charge did go through successfully. the poof in purchases section on itch.io website, can you get me a key and code

Okay, then you have to contact itch.io support. We have no ability to help you with the billing and key redeeming side of things on itch.io

are the purchase options on itch.io different from the home site? my bro is having issues buying the game on the home site of vintagestory.at

(+1)

No difference. You get the full game experience from all official resellers (main site, humble, itch.io and the special store for LATAM countries).

(1 edit) (+1)

It costs more or less depending on if you buy it between the different sites.

Aside from that, they all give you the same thing.
Well- that and buying it over here gives you a key that will let you attach it to your vintage story account on the main site, letting that site know you own the game and can download the installer and updater over there.

I had to learn that the hard way because buying it on the main site didn't work for me either lol. I just figured worrying about two extra bucks wasn't worth the energy, so I bought it over here.

well dang. I guess I got to scrape together 2 more bucks then cuz I may have to get it here instead.

(1 edit)

Only problem I personally had with it is I use Visa gift cards to buy things, so I assumed that the site doesn't handle those well.
I often get told my card is declined by a lot of websites because of this though. Fortunately itch doesn't fuck me over.

(+7)(-7)

That is unfortunate.

I wanted to get a "let's not treat our customers like thieves" version (aka DRM-free) and yet you still need to redeem a key here...

Oh well. I own MineCraft. Don't really need this.

(+4)(-7)

You can log in once and use your local firewall to block internet access to the game and it'll keep functioning forever.

The main reason for the account system bound to your purchase is that it makes it massively easier to moderate online game servers.

It also allows us to distribute binaries more freely such as the community contributed Linux AUR and Flatpak Packages.

(+5)(-2)

sorry, but i agree with the other person and some on the forums. not everyone has the means to periodically authenticate their games, it's also bad for longevity. I can still play my playstation discs from childhood, but in 20 years your servers aren't going to stay up.

(+3)(-4)

> not everyone has the means to periodically authenticate
But I just wrote that you don't have to. If you set it up right, just one single time - forever.

> in 20 years your servers aren't going to stay up.
Should at any point the VS servers get intentionally shut down, you have my blessing to remove the login protection from the game - a skilled programmer can do this in 2 hours. Or build your own authentication server. The game is written in C# and intentionally left unobfuscated, so it can be decompiled back into C# with freely available tools within minutes.

That being said, each to his own. You are free to not buy the game ^_^

Looks cool

(+4)

why is it 23 dollars here

(+1)(-1)

cuz they gotta pay a bigger cut of the profits to itch.io for letting them sell it here. its 2$ cheaper on the home site.

on the main site is it just $21.00 or is there change and tax i gotta worry about? i am in the usa.

(+1)

nope, 21$ is all you need to pay there

(1 edit)

does my bro need an account to purchase the game for me or is the "Giftable Game Account" option thingy what you use if you buy but don't have an account?

the giftable game account is one you can give away freely to friends & family

(+2)

played for half an hour game crashed and world corrupted :/

I'm wondering when this game will be released on Steam. I wanted to buy this game because my friends invited me to play it, but I can't because I don't have both access to PayPal and a credit /debit card to pay for it.

(+2)

good point

(+7)(-1)

https://www.vintagestory.at/faq.html/

(+6)(-1)

You can purchase prepaid visa/mastercards at most gas stations/convenience stores that are one-time charge but can't be refilled if you only have cash or a normal bank debit card that can't be used online, but you inevitably will lose a couple bucks that you can't spend once it's almost empty unless you remember to take it to a store and use the exact last bit of money combined with cash for the rest. They also have an activation fee, usually under $5. I get your struggle, I still don't have a credit card and I'm 27 lol.

(+3)(-1)

Yes it should be released on stream.

(+2)(-1)

the creator does not want to put it on steam because there is a lot more pressure putting things on steam

Steam takes a BIG cut and doesn't permit upcharging. It is a big expense for an indie developer who has to determine if the increased exposure on Steam will cover the added costs. Apparently these developers have determined that it will not. I guess they are in that sweet spot between being small enough to not afford the cost, and big enough to not need the exposure. So platforms like Humble, Itch.io, and direct make more economic sense to them.

do like i am doing and give somebody you TRUST the money and have them BUY it for you. then download and enjoy.  this way you don't technically NEED a bank or credit/debit card. just get someone who who does.

(+7)(-1)

Если бы я ни был нищим, то сыграл бы

Does it matter which shop I buy this from? Or is there no difference and I could get it on the main site without the world ending?

(+7)(-1)

All 3 official stores are pretty much the same. Buying it off the main site is a tad more smooth when you want to get Vintagehosting or the Supporter Addon.

Thank you for explaining this I was actually confused myself

what are the 3 official stores

It's written in the first paragraph of the games description, but i can make the wording more explicit.

Feel free to request a refund if the account requirement doesn't suit you.

(+1)

is this game playable on controller? if its not do you have any plans to make it playable on controller?

(+2)

I think one of the arguments to actually make this have controller support is handheld PCs. However, that can still be difficult to implement. It's technically possible to play with a controller running through steam. There's still no good way to play with a controller though.

Thats unfortunate but thankfully Its still a good game im just bad at Mnk as im still new to the pc world.

I feel like this is a situation where people just need more buttons to press on controllers for it to work.

(+1)(-1)

Well, the controller support is helping a lot to people with special requirements.

It makes the game well connected to systems like Xbox Adaptive Controller or similar.
