This game is very frustrating to learn how to play. Consider playing in Exploration mode to reduce the early game torture. Once you get past its initial hurdles it becomes much more fun and interesting. Pro tip: Have a lot of torches so when one goes out you can relight it with the others. Also, throw spears at rabbits, that is how food until you can build a farm and/or ranch.
Don't buy this game. I'm a big arsonist and the fire is just plain bad. Combat is terrible. Everything has a way of disappointing you that's for sure and it's not my cup of tea. Could be sweet to your tooth though, I don't know. I really wanted to not hate this game but it's kind of hard not to. I'm warning you though, don't buy it.
I just bought the Game 3 Days ago and allready have 24 hours in my World. I am HOOKED!
It scratches the same itch as RL-Craft or simmilar Minecraft Modpacks, but this ist it's very own game, build from the ground up for this exact purpose. Instead of Removing or Complicating existing Mechanics like Minecraft Modpacks, Vintage Story is build around this slower progression.
Crafting is not confined to one Item per slot, sometimes requiering 2 or 3, greatly increasing the Options for placement. The inbuilt Guide allows you to quickly read up on recepies and game mechanics, making up for the increase in complexity.
And the Clayforming and Smithing are a wonderfull way to craft your gear, allowing for the experience of the Player to quicken or even improve the process, withot resorting to quicktime events.
This game is worth more than its asking price and if you love the Open-World-Survival-Craft genre, it is a Must Play.
I just bought the game, and when I click on the button to get the key it says "Your purchase comes with a download key!" and gives me an url, when I go to the site it makes me create an account but I have this error, i didn't create any account and it's not working for me.
If you bought the game on itch.io you only need to make one account by clicking on the game key, as it is a link. See top paragraph on how to obtain the key

the steam key thing was a mistake of min and itch.io has not yet responded in remedying the situation, you should be able to also redeem another key there.
Stop calling this a Minecraft clone or "just minecraft with shaders and mods" because that's as accurate as calling a Battlefield game "just doom but multiplayer" or calling an apple a clone of a slice of bread since they're both edible. It disheartening to me that people have this low of a comprehension of the fact that things can seem vaguely similar while being different.

Bought this game on their website absolute W from the few minutes I played. I always wanted to play minecraft as a kid but didn't have the now or the money to afford it, I was thinking of buying mc just to say "ya I own a copy" but discovered this one. You're not wrong, my downvote on your original comment was just because I think it misses important differences. One of which is that (to my understanding) this game was made in part because of the limitations of modding minecraft. Your subsequent comments should not have downvotes imo.
Yeah, you could probably make this game in Minecraft with mods, but I don't think it would even come close to this performance.
For reference, in my experience I get about 60 fps avg with regular drops at 15 chunk render distance on vanilla MC, and that drops to 30 or less avg with mods of almost any kind.
This game is easily consistently at max fps for me (which has been set to 75) with max render distance (1536 blocks, which I believe is 48 chunks if my information is correct).
edit: To be clear, I'm not saying the game is just better because of the performance, it's just a significant personal factor for me. You could check reviews for other differences but with the dev being so intent on refunding the game for anyone who doesn't like it I don't see why not to just try it out if it is interesting to someone.
The maker did it themselves. They use a very close copy of the minecraft layout. To say it is only inspired by "Lovecraftian Horror" Is just disingenuous at best.
there is nothing wrong about beingg inspired by a game, Notch admitted himself to be inspired by dwarven fortress. But people shouldn't just act like something they make, especialy when using their vast knowledge in modding Minecraft, isn't based on minecraft.
It has a lot of features base game for sure, but a lot of those features literally are minecraft with mods. A lot of other features and gameplay aspects are not. And that is good. This game definitely has its own seperate soul. But again, it's disingenuous to act like this isn't a clone of minecraft at its core. because it kinda is a clone at its heart. And that is Fine. because that is LITERALLY why this game was made. it's a minecraftlike, and the makers should own it.
And people shoudln't act like it is something seperate entirely

Hey, I need a steam key to create an account. But whenever I go to get a steam key it says "there are no steam keys available at this time."
You redeem the key on Vintage Story's website when making an account. It's not a steam key.

The game runs so inconceivably smoothly. I have never had this kind of performance in Minecraft, vanilla or modded.
